In 1912, Dr Moody married Olive Tranter, a white British nurse who was a colleague whilst studying for his medical degree. His wifes friends and family didn't approve, stating that “by becoming the wife of a Black man, she was betraying her race.” The constant racial prejudice further emphasised that Black people's shared struggle of discrimination which was rooted in the unequal colonial world system shaped by slavery and exploitation. Driven by his passion to tackle racial discrimination, especially in the work force, Dr Moody formed The League of Coloured People was formed.
