Black History Month, acknowledged each October in the UK, was created to celebrate the culture heritage and history of Black people.

The event began in America in 1915 by Historian Dr Carter G Woodson though was officially recognised by the US government in 1976. Black History Month was first celebrated in the UK in 1987.
